Play On Words Festival Finale March 13th
March 03, 2010

Charlottetown – The Play On Words Storytelling Festival hosts its final component of the festival on Saturday, March 13th at 7:30pm within the theme An Island Perspective.

All stories presented during this evening are true stories about Islanders, our way of life and significant events that are both memorable and laughable to everyone. Well known Islander and emcee, Eric MacEwen, will be sure to weave all stories together with his own flair for storytelling.

“We thought it was important to present an evening about Islanders and the lives of Islanders as stories about ourselves are a tightly woven component of our culture, history and our people”, says Cate Proctor, executive director of The Guild, presenting venue of the festival.

The evening opens with four members of the Life Writing Group sharing their personal experiences and stories about The Great Snow of 1961, Grandmother’s Apron and Registered Nurse on PEI which is a story about one presenter’s mother and her struggles to reach her career goals while caring for the sick during the mid-1900’s on PEI.

The presenting members of the Life Writing Group include Kaye Larkin, Donna Gallant, Margaret Fitzpatrick and Janet Fraser. This group meets twice a month to write, read and share stories from their past.

The finale for the festival presents a musical tribute to larger-than-life  radio personality, Loman McAulay, with the musical theatre presentation of The Big Red Radio Show.  The story brings the audience into the broadcast booth at CFCY and shares Loman’s many experiences during his record breaking, 44 year career in radio. The presentation portrays well known entertainers that he worked with or launched the careers of including, Marg Osborne, Gene MacLellan, The Storybook Lady and many others.

The Big Red Radio Show is produced by Young At Heart Musicial Theatre for Seniors and is presented by actors/musicians Anders Balderston, Jennifer Long and Nick Whelan. The Big Red Radio Show is co-written by Hank Stinson and Wade Lynch and directed by Hank Stinson.
