Sarah Burnell Brings Award Winning Celtic Energy to The Guild
On August 5th, the Gotta Go Festival presents 2006 Canadian Folk Music Award Winner, Sarah Burnell. She and her band are traveling from Ontario, bringing their toe tapping, Celtic tunes with them.
Sarah Burnell hails from Ottawa, but her fiddle roots may be found in the music of the Scottish Highlands, Cape Breton, Ireland, and Québec. Her energetic fiddle style possesses a youthful exuberance, grounded in her strong classical training.
Sarah’s music features fresh, original arrangements of traditional Celtic Music. In June, 2008, her CD “Return Ticket” took a serious shot at world and jazz rhythms! Sarah will be featured on both violin and vocals throughout the Guild concert, one that will take you on a journey to many "Celtic" lands.
Doors open for this one-night-only engagement at 7pm with the show beginning at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 General Admission, $15 students, and $10 for children 12 and under
Backgrounder:
The Sarah Burnell Band first came together in 2006, to record their début album, Sarah'ndipity. Sarah’ndipity created quite a buzz in the Canadian music scene, winning Sarah the 2006 Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Young Performer. Since then, their unique arrangements of Celtic music have won accolades across Canada. In June 2008, The Sarah Burnell Band released their critically-acclaimed album, Return Ticket. The Sarah Burnell Band was honoured with two nominations for Return Ticket: Best Instrumental at the Ontario Independent Music Awards, and Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. On Return Ticket, The Sarah Burnell Band explores the influences of many other folk music cultures, including the Latin American, Gypsy-Jazz, and Galician sounds. This combination of the Celtic and World genres makes for an exciting musical journey!
The Sarah Burnell Band is known for their dedication to the Celtic tradition but also for their sense of musical adventure. In February 2007, The SBB was invited as the guest artists for a Young People’s Concert with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Under the baton of Boris Brott, the SBB explored the musical links between Celtic and Baroque music. The SBB has also performed at many summer folk festivals and folk series, including the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, the Ottawa Folk Festival, the Acoustic Harvest folk series, the Flying Cloud Folk Club, and the Home County Folk Festival.
