Gallery Exhibition Unveils New Collaborative Artwork
April 27, 2009

A collaborative gallery exhibit of Island Artists entitled ‘Art with Heart’ opens at The Gallery @ The Guild on Friday, May 1st at 5:00 pm.

This exhibition celebrates 15 Island painters and fabric artists who have contributed their talents to a new fundraising initiative between the Heart & Stroke Foundation of PEIand The Guild. The exhibition will showcase original works from each artist as well as display the collaborative mosaic they have contributed to, which will be unveiled at the show’s opening.

The mosaic is a recreation of an iconic Island image from award-winning photographer John Sylvester. The image was divided into 15 panels, and each panel was rendered by a different Island artist in his or her own style. The panels were then reassembled to reproduce the original image. The 42” x 32” artwork is framed and ready for hanging.

The contributing artists are Ina Lee, Henry Purdy, Margaret England, Sandi Komst, Greg Garand, Arlene Rice, Isabel Court, Julia Purcell, Warren Foulkes, Karen Gallant, Joan Creamer, Anne Gallant, Lorraine Vatcher, Iris Ethridge, and Nan Ferrier.

The mosaic artwork will remain on display at The Guild throughout the summer until September, 2009, when a winner will be drawn from all tickets sold.

Tickets are $20 each for the piece, and available during The Guild’s regular box office hours of operation, Tuesday to Saturday, 12-5pm.  Every ticket purchased includes a miniature print of the artwork for the purchaser to take home and frame if they wish.

The ‘Art with Heart’ gallery exhibition runs until May 15th at the Gallery @ The Guild, located on the corner of Richmond & Queen Street in downtown Charlottetown.

When asked if they would recommend The Guild, a patron from Murray River, PEI who was attending the Celtic Ladies show advised, "I like the size and intimacy of the theatre. I'm a first-time visitor". - July 2008
